September in Review

Dear September,

How fun were you! First of all I have to thank you for the lovely weather we had during our holiday at the beginning of the month. 

I just had enough time to make my entry for le challenge - and in the process get myself a new phone, and sign up to instagram - which I am addicted to as I knew I would. 

I shared my first - ever - handmade dress. I still need to pluck up the courage to actually wear it.. you were not the month, sorry. 

A shawlette was made, given away and styled.. 

I even updated my diary to be on top of all the projects I want to be getting on with.. 

And thanks to these cookies ... 

I should have enough to tackle my current WIPs and the ones to come (a bit of knitting and quilting in the works).. 

September you were great, but I am so looking forward to the October colours...

And finishing some of my WIPs and getting a few tutorials up... What have you been up to during September?

Japanese WIP {Quilting}

It took me a while, but I got over my initial reluctance to make more Japanese + and x blocks, and I am nearly done with the May ones - that is a bit late for the Queen bees but at least they are done in May. 

I have decided to stick to the brief, but try to add my own stamp on it - the crosses are for instance of the same tone to stand out - and I paid a bit of attention to the colour of the triangles.

5 things you need to know about these blocks:

- The cutting is tedious, well at least I find it tedious and be sure to keep to the measurements (worth it for the piecing)
- Once the cutting is done, the block is fairly easy to piece together
- Pay attention to where the + and x meet as it will show in the overall quilt
- It is quite hard to match the colours and the scrappiness (even harder when you are in a bee and these are only 2 blocks out of 46)
- It is a great scrap buster! 

I am much happier - the stitching is much better as well. They will be ready to be sent tomorrow. And I will be able to move on. Whoohoo! Linking up this WIP to others at Freshly Pieced!

1/ Baby MiH hand knitted jumper (hope to finish before he outgrows it), more information about the pattern here; 2/ I made minimal progress with my Ojo de Dios and only have the wooden structure (a quick trip to B+Q did the trick); 3/ Fabrics for my next quilting adventure; 4/ Tapenade is growing, and I cannot wait to get to the third part of the pattern - the current section is really testing me.
