Knitting from a Kit? | Wool and the Gang {Knitting}

Wednesday 5 March 2014

Who you have thought that one day I would be knitting from a kit - including pattern, needles and wool? Not a lot of room for change, a bit strange for me. But when it comes down to it, I was just curious about the concept behind Wool and the Gang - especially after London Fashion Show.

So far it is pretty straightforward. I had to make my mark and changed the stitch used, but nothing much really. I chose the Little Giants top - and I love the colour (Forest Green) - I am really happy I spent time working out what it would look like. Knitting with 15 mm needles goes fast but I must admit is a bit awkward.

At this stage I am slightly worried that I was not ask to knit a gauge (even though I don't always knit one, but it may be good for the fit of the top), and that the fabric may be too dense to wear - it is taking yarn chunkiness to another level.

I am really curious to see how this is going to turn out. I may add that the kit is a bit pricey but would make a lovely present for someone who would like to get into knitting. I am wondering if you will see this finished as a top or something else - I will definitely use this yarn for a project!

Have you ever knitted from a kit? From WATG or other suppliers? Would you consider it?

  1. As you know, Nat, I am not a knitter but the colour and stitch you are doing look fantastic. But they do look more suited to a heavier jumper or a scarf. Whatever you make I am sure it will be gorgeous.

  2. I haven't but if I liked the look of what was inside I probably would buy it. Those needles look like they are nice quality

  3. I've never tried a kit but I've always thought that they would make a great gift. I think the top will fit even if your gauge is off. Looks like it's a pretty forgiving design. The stitch pattern is really lovely.

  4. You know I'm not a knitter either but that yarn looks gorgeous, as does the top! I'm all for chunky!

  5. I've never tried a knit kit. I'm afraid it'd be too limiting---I like to be able to pick out all the elements myself, individually.

    Though, the patterns and designs at Wool & the Gang look great. This top in particularly is going to look great. (And it looks like a quick knit!)

  7. Being a new knitter I haven't knit from a kit but I think I'd actually be willing to give it a go, depending on the project

  8. I had no idea that there were knitting kits! Perhaps there is hope for me to learn how after all :)

  9. It is a beautiful color Nat. I've never done a project from a kit, but it actually sounds interesting. I love those needles too.

  10. That is a beautiful color. The yarn looks soft and warm. I like how you can layer with that top. What do the letters on the ends of your needles mean?

    1. It is the initials of Wool and the Gang - I don't have (yet) needles with my initials, but should be thinking about it!

  13. I've never used a kit and probably won't use one in the future... Not that I dislike them, but I've never felt inclined to them (apart from the "AbFab" shawls that were all the rage years ago). That said, your knit is looking fabulous. What a lovely deep green! Can't wait to see how it turns out!
