Refraction Shawlette + Giveaway {Knitting}

Wednesday 18 September 2013

Although I did not blog a lot last month, it was actually quite a productive month. There was a lot of car adventures... Here is (finally) my version of the Refraction shawlette. I tested Chrissy from Stitched Together’s pattern, but to be honest it was nearly perfect, and therefore what I really got is a beautiful pattern for free!

I followed the pattern to the letter as I was test knitting (I followed the charts). I made one more repeat as I had enough yarn. It seems that test knitters had different experiences on the yardage, I nearly finished the whole skein and was fine, other knitters had to go for a bi-tone look as they ran out. I may be a very tight knitter though.

The blocking is key, I even took my blocking wires with me on holiday (to be honest we took nearly the whole house, so it did not take that much space). I am still not 100% happy with it, but I have done it twice and I am not sure I will manage to get the points more pointy.

Pattern: Refraction Shawlette by Stitched Together (available on
Ravelry or for a chance to get it for free, keep on reading)
Yarn: Perran Yarn (80% Superwash Merino, 10% Nylon, 10% Cashmere), 4 ply in Cordovan (custom-dyed by Steph from SixSkeins). I nearly finished my 100g skein (approx 400m or 437 yards)
Needle Size: 3.5 mm
Measurements: 120 cm x 60 cm (centre)
Difficulty Rating: I needed it nearby to refer to the pattern throughout the knit (especially for the last chart). I would say medium-intermediate but car-friendly pattern.
Result: I love it, it is the perfect Autumn addition to my wardrobe, probably will be too light for winter – but you need to keep that thickness of yarn for the pattern to really show. I would probably make an even bigger version – adding a few repeats to the pattern.

Thank you Chrissy for the opportunity to test the pattern. I cannot wait to style it once of these Saturdays. And because Chrissy is extra nice, you have also the opportunity to win the pattern for free. The giveaway is open internationally, Chrissy will add the pattern to your Ravelry library (if you have a Rav account).
