Japanese WIP {Quilting}

Wednesday 29 May 2013

It took me a while, but I got over my initial reluctance to make more Japanese + and x blocks, and I am nearly done with the May ones - that is a bit late for the Queen bees but at least they are done in May.

I have decided to stick to the brief, but try to add my own stamp on it - the crosses are for instance of the same tone to stand out - and I paid a bit of attention to the colour of the triangles.

5 things you need to know about these blocks:

- The cutting is tedious, well at least I find it tedious and be sure to keep to the measurements (worth it for the piecing)
- Once the cutting is done, the block is fairly easy to piece together
- Pay attention to where the + and x meet as it will show in the overall quilt
- It is quite hard to match the colours and the scrappiness (even harder when you are in a bee and these are only 2 blocks out of 46)
- It is a great scrap buster!

I am much happier - the stitching is much better as well. They will be ready to be sent tomorrow. And I will be able to move on. Whoohoo! Linking up this WIP to others at Freshly Pieced

  3. Gorgeous Nat! I've only actually made one of these - I agree though, the cutting was the most time consuming bit :o)

  4. I like them!! And I agree that the cutting is most tedious. That's my least favorite part anyway...

  5. I have made a few of these and they seem to take a long time to put together - although they look amazing when they are done

  6. Your blocks look great - I have never made this type of block but I can see there is a bit of cutting involved.

  7. Love these blocks, but like you also found the cutting a pita.

  9. I'm not minding the cutting of these so much but am having a bit of a time choosing fabrics. I guess we will be the two late birds, as I'm just getting mind done too. :) I love yours!!

  10. I seem to remember the cutting was fairly tedious but they came together fairly quickly. I did only make 2 and have them out of my system now :)

  11. It is a lot of different fabrics to get to go together but you have a wonderful selection.

  14. The bright colors and mix of patterns are so fun. When you quilt, do you have to worry about fraying? Each piece of cut fabric doesn't have to be interlocked?
