What was happening in August?

Friday 31 August 2012

How can it be August 31 already? August absolutely flew by and here we were at lunchtime discussing Christmas already. Anyway let's focus on August. During the month, I tried to keep tabs on who was talking about what - and getting some useful tips along the way.

Pictures from here

For anyone sewingColette had this amazing tutorial on adding an invisible zipper. It is a video so you can see what you are supposed to do. Brilliant!

For quilting, Pile O'Fabric explored the different options for basting (pins, spray, hand stitch!) - as part of the Beginners'Quilting 101 series. OK, it may be obvious for some of you, but I need a reminder - or a better way to do my basting -, and there may be other post in the series you may be interested in ..

Did I mention Christmas? I reckon I will be looking at the Snowflake Block Tutorial by Mad Quilter's Disease. It looks amazing! It is in 3 parts so an easy tutorial to follow.

For some car knitting, I will be copying Kessa in Stitches' version of the Burberry inspired cowl neck scarf, all with the 1x1 rib pattern. So simple and so intricate at the same time.

For some bling bling in my life I will  look at this DIY Golden Lace Cuff from Runway. Lace, gold, DIY, yep, I am there. It is a June tutorial but I only found it so it totally counts for August.

For blogging, I have found THE photography light reference library. This website is about one thing: Learning how to use off-camera flash with your DSLR - which is probably going to come very handy with the darker days and less natural light.. Special mention to the video of the making of pictures for Outside feat Bear Grylls. Amazing.

And finally what I am looking forward to is I heart Linen 'Mod Hexies' pattern. We know I love Rashida's fabric range, and this is an amazing quilt. She mentioned she may do a tutorial, so stay tune.

A special reference to Lucy @ Charm about you for her alternative use of Aurifil - the threading tutorial! Yes, this is THE tutorial that was retweeted by Alex of Aurifil (she in fact made me go 3 times to the Aurifil stand to discuss this with Alex, who was nowhere to be seen unfortunately!). There are loads of pictures guys so you cannot get it wrong... jsut to let you know though apparently it hurts, just saying.

So here we are August has come and gone, what were your highlights of the month, which post did you bookmark? Which project did you take on as a result of a post? Don't be shy, share them with us in the comment box just below...

Linking up to Lily's Quilts Small Blog Meet. Not exactly what I have done this month, but you have an idea of my inspiration at the moment!

  1. Wow what a fun list! Gosh I bookmarked over a dozen things this month and have tried out nothing yet. The start was so busy with volunteering I got hardly any of the sewing I wanted to do done!
