Previously Discarded: The Victoria Blazer {Dressmaking}

Monday, 3 March 2014

There are probably a few reasons why I discarded the Victoria Blazer - probably because it is scary to think of making a blazer by myself and also because I tend to avoid wearing blazers at all cost, even for work. I suppose this one also has a boy-ish look to it which is not necessarily flattering on me.

Victoria Blazer by By Hand London

Anyway, discarded. A lot of people were raving about By Hand London patterns and I decided not to follow suit.... Until, this version came along...

A coat version - with no collar - totally my sort of coat! This is Oona's version for Project Sewn, and I just fell in love with that whole outfit (check it out here) but the coat has really caught my eye - and yes I bought the pattern then and there.

So what are the main changes:
- there is a tutorial to follow to make the modifications - clever By Hand London ladies!
- the fabric Oona used, in her own words...  'is quilted-- but not double layered, more like the quilting stitches were just on a thick cotton. Both sides are quite soft & pretty, so it didn't need a lining'. Yes, people no lining! BUT she does mention the 'hong kong finish', does that ring any bells? that takes 86 hours, maybe lining is something I should learn.. Anyhow the fabric is awesome, there is no denying it.

So guess what, I am in search of fabric...

Have you made the Victoria blazer? Or would you have discarded it?
