Friday Randomly Sharing

I have been travelling again on business - and I cannot wait to be at home for a couple of weeks, it would be a welcomed change. Today was my first full day at home, and I got a chance to make some Raweos with Beckie. And they are delicious (Baby MiH has eaten 3 in one night!)... And now to this week's reading.. a short list ...

I am quite excited about sewing. 

- I love Andreia's Linden Sweatshirt

- I am wondering how to build a capsule wardrobe that fit with my style - this 10 x 10 challenge seems like a good start. 

- I am quite excited about the new Simple Sew patterns collection

- I love this version of the Morris Blazer - I need a new jacket (but not an overly formal one) so this is quite inspiring. 

And knitting..

- A couple of my friends are pregnant, and I would love to make an Envol blanket this year - also it would be an amazing background for taking pictures...

And 'baking' some treats.. 

- Gluten free raw vegan lemon bar - I love the sharpness of lemon so I cannot wait to try this recipe. 

- These nearly vegan black beans brownies need tweaking so that I can eat them, I just need to work on it. 

- (I am sorry all in French) but I want ALL these cooking books for vegans (for babies, raw vegans, vegan cheese - that are not cheese). 

And relax. 

- I so want to go to this organic farmland between Mount Liamuiga and the Caribbean Sea, and try one of 84 guesthouses at Belle Mont Farm - this is the eco tourism that speaks to me. 

- Which Chakra do you need to work on? I am not surprised about the Chakra that needs my attention, are you?

Friday Randomly Sharing

This week has been full of ups and downs here. I have been travelling quite a bit for work and also at weekends and it is clearly taking a toll - and I am getting emotional. Leo has been gone for 6 months this week, and these milestones remind me too painfully of how much I miss my baby. 

To make me feel better (and distract myself) I signed up for the Makelight beginner photography course. We had to make a visualisation board for our style/branding - mine is here. And it has been enlightening, now it is about to learn the skills to make it happen. I also started a new crochet project - I'd forgotten how much I loved crochet. Why did I stop? 

In other news this week... 

I will soon be sewing... 

- A free summer pattern from Liesl + Co - a linen caftan. So easy to make (it is written that it takes an hour!) and so easy to wear. 

- Lu's first pattern is released and it so clever - a really cool needle case (to get my sewing mojo back). 

- I love Rae's luna pants inspiration board - looks so comfy! The pattern is available here. 

- I really like the new Stockholm blouse by Atelier Scammit (free pattern)- especially this version.

- Kate had a great post about being a pattern and fabric hoarder - I am a pattern hoarder, but not a fabric or yarn (maybe patterns take less space?). I need to work on it, the Kondo method has not yet been applied here...  

- I love this simple tutorial on making half square triangles for quilting. I love the effect of HST, and I am hoping to show some off soon.

- I love this styling of 'winter culottes'. 

I might however go off track with other crafty projects.. 

- Sashiko 101 - this is it, I will try Sashiko and stop drooling over pictures of it. 

- I have been wanting to try weaving for a bit of time, and this free pattern from Purl Soho might my latest weaving crush.

- A gluten free spring roll recipe - actually forget about the spring rolls and go straight to the spicy peanut sauce. 

- When you have hardly any time to cook (like every night at the moment) but fancy something different - this 15 minute Pad Thai recipe could be for you (and definitely for me). 

- Glowing spiced lentil soup - I cannot wait to try this recipe.

It is a bit of a long post - there is probably a bit for everyone here. I think I will run this series every week now. I seem to read more and more from blogs and online magazines, but still want to keep the list readable.

To sew or not to sew? 

- I am sure you all have seen the new Tessuti pattern - the Demi pant - and I am not sure. They look SO comfy, but the ballooning effect on each leg, hmm.

- Rachel's off the shoulder top is so on trend. I wished there was a pattern for it (Rachel?)!

- All that vintage sewing inspiration - how beautiful are all these patterns?

- How to draft a swing tee tutorial - it makes it look SO easy!

- This tutorial to stop your machine swallowing your fabric - yes, finally! (so it is not just me and my poor skills, whoohoo!)


Behind the price of fashion 

- Here are the maths behind a £5.99 Lidl pair of jeans - and it is not magic

- There has been a lot of discussion in the UK about the gender pay gap last week - but there is even more a pink tax applied to even women's clothes (read for the same unisex clothes women pay more).

- Is social media really killing our inner self? I am not sure, I can understand but I am sure other people have found like me benefits from building a community of like-minded people and sharing projects. I do wonder what the world of Baby MiH will be like though ..

- In my dreams, I will look and wear all of this collection  and this collection - all of it - beautiful and ethical. Who said ethical fashion should be boring?

Knitting/Crocheting away

- I pinned exactly the same pictures (oh Pinterest!) when I wanted to knit Baby MiH a Gansey inspired jumper (yep, never happened) - but this could be a sign that I revisit it.

- A Granny square shrug - or the perfect way to use all these left over yarns I have..

whilst eating away...

- You have to check this recipe for an alternative (and surprising) Easter egg - a cake in a eggshell - really you have to check it, I cannot actually explain it properly.

- I am not exactly the best dinner date planner - especially when it involves one little man - but I should try harder (and use these tips), maybe even when it is just for the 3 of us.

-  When we go on holiday near the beach, we usually collect cockles fresh from the beach (hours of entertainment) - and here is the perfect recipe Baby MiH would love (without the wine) - cockles + peas, a winner.

- Eat your rainbow - love this recipe (remove the bee pollen for a vegan version)

- Gluten free, vegan tortilla nachos - looks amazing, and finally an idea for the chickpea flour that has been sitting in my cupboard for a while now.

- A great vegan and gluten free recipe - Soba Noodles + chickpeas & spinach with tahini miso sauce. 

... and looking at pictures (I am a multi-tasker, don't you know?)

- These pictures - you want them to move, can imagine them moving, and be like arrrghhhh!

- My brother and my parents are going to Japan this year (separately I might add, I am the only one embracing going on hols with my parents for free babysitting) - I am sending them there.

A very random list this week... which I hope you will enjoy. 

- Free jumper pattern - sign me up! I love the oversized version of the Mohawk Wool Sweatshirt. The best bit: the buttons at the back. Totally my style.

- I love the new Treehouse patterns by Mandarine's. They are so beautiful, and a really lovely story that goes with them.

- New food trends - can Marie Kondo book be the source of all these changes? Did she even know?

- This is a summer project - but a perfect one for a little someone who loves collecting seashells on the beach. Can you imagine his face when I make  fairy lights out of his findings (and in the process find a purpose for them!)

- There are so many ethical certifications around - maybe this one will help us actually know what 'ethical' means and how companies should behave.

- These X-Ray pictures were taken in the 30s - how modern are they? So striking and yet so delicate

- I am lucky enough to go to Paris at least once or twice a year. I usually stick to what I know, but Local Milk's guide might just be the ticket to widen my horizons and try new alleys.

- As I usually get to change yarn a lot from the patterns recommended yarn (for more ethical versions) - accounting for my gauge is quite key. Here is a guide on how to.

- Some films about women I might not want to miss - but equally I need to be in a good mood to watch!

- The stash less challenge - I am not in, but I am definitely reading the blog posts with interest.

- Sasha's amazing reversible Sydney jacket - breathtakingly beautiful!

- A snoqualmie KAL - might be the only way for me to knit this cardigan. But so many things of my knitting list that will look at it from far.

- Just the best street style pictures from New York Fashion Week.

- Did someone say cake? as in cake sculpture in an entire space???

- Intelligent parking chairs - impressive (although I am not sure I see the point of them)

- Yumiko's books have been translated into English. I love her embroidery work, it is work of art. I might just add these books to my wishlist.

- Julie reviewed the latest Pompom Quarterly - and I actually like it. I sound surprised, don't I? The patterns are usually a bit out there, and I cannot see how they would fit in my wardrobe. But this issue is surprisingly closer to my style. My favourite might be the Delineate tank top.

- I love this rope basket by Liesl - I saw the process on IG, and seeing how it turned out makes me want to try it even more!

- We are going skiing, but not staying here - but how amazing would that be? Equally I am really happy to stay in the flat below my parents, 1) because it is not in the flat with my parents, 2) they still look after Baby MiH the whole day so I can ski - this chalet does not provide this level of high quality service.

This week I was inspired by ..

My Grandma who is 83 (and the biggest collector of my knits, making her my biggest fan in the world). She is now on her own. My Mum asked her what she really wanted to do now. My Grandma told her that she wanted to go to Venice (where does that come from??!). My Mum said ok, that she would take her, if my Grandma walked. She is not much of a walker - actually, she is a rubbish walker. She now walks 45 minutes every day so she can make the trip of a lifetime in Venice. Whoa! People. it is never too late.

I wanted to sew...

- The Birkin Flares... I am sold. I have seen this pattern before, but Oona made me realise that I need them in my life - desperately!

- I love this version of the Inari Tee Dress by Named - The addition of central seams is brilliant - looks so professional. I have added to my sewing list, as if it was not long enough..

- I love this review of the best sewing patterns in 2015. I have a few in stock - not touched of course (arrghh) - but it reminded me that I really want a new Renfrew and that I have the Minoru Jacket pattern and all the fabric for it.

I will be travelling (not for work) ...

- 52 places to travel to in 2016 (there is no way some of these places are this year, but there are actually a few in Europe.. So Easyjet, where do you fly to?)

I will be watching ... 

- If you are in the UK, you might be interested in a new reality show - that does not seem as dumb as some others - called the sugar free farm to be aired on ITV from 26 January - it is in my diary, is it in yours?

- OMG!! One of my favourite after school 80s series is back, Fuller House (aka la Fete a la maison as I know it) will start on Netflix in February 2016. Is it wrong to be excited?

- A lot of TV ...  knitting and TV is a great combo. I loved Atelier on Netflix, beware it is in Japanese (so you could also say that I was learning a new language) and therefore easy knitting is required. A great series about the fashion industry, focusing on luxury underwear. 

Whilst knitting...

- If you follow me on Pinterest, you know I am a bit of Humanoid fan - and I found (totally by chance) a knitting jumper called 'humanoid knock off' - yes it is in my favs list (and also it is made from a free pattern, hourray for free pattern!)

- A free simple hat pattern, yes please, thanks Felicia!

- BT published its latest lookbook, check out Julie's review. I do love Halus, and League. What's your favourite? Snoqualmie wins on Ravelry. 

I will be reading ... 

- My coffee table is officially looking very uncool as none of this uber-cool magazines features on it. Time to review my readings. 

- The reality behind the blog, my friend Cee has written a day in the life of a fashion blogger, reading about all that workout has knackered me. 

- I am not sure how I can feel pain anymore - I am a bit numb in that department - but I have been thinking a lot about happiness, and what it does actually mean. I loved reading this article, about negative experiences, and how much you want it.

And finally... Travelling (with work) and maybe meeting with you... 

I am travelling with work again - oh the glamour of a hotel (and full night sleep) - So people, I will be in Brussels and Leiden in February, Paris in April, Copenhagen in April, Dublin in May. I am usually staying the one night - message me if you fancy meeting up with me and get some knitting done!

- I am late.. very late.. already 5 days late for one of my friends birthday. And she is not about to get her present unfortunately, but at least I have started. It involves the above grey felt and my naturally dyed yarn. Hopefully next week ... or she may not understand it was meant for her birthday. 

- I saw the picture of the Stories from Snoqualmie Valley Shawl on Arrow Acres Farm, where a possible KAL is discussed. I love this shawl - I don't have the time for a KAL, but this has gone straight into my Ravelry favourite list. 

- I read this article from Peaceful Dumpling on searching her life's purpose. And I knew exactly what she meant. My life purpose seems to change day by day, maybe hour by hour - and maybe I am just a multi-purpose kind-of-girl. After all I am a mother, a wife, a employee, a crafter etc. And all of these things make my life - just not sure whether it is all supposed to be in my purpose... 

- Through Buckaloo View I found this neat free pattern for mittens - so so cute, I may knit myself a pair.

- I am really into wall hanging at the moment - and this easy wall hanging DIY is totally up my street (very Ferm Living). 

- I always looking at more affordable way to buy clothes ethically, and this article (in French but you can know the sites) references some of the 'greener' corners of the usual clothing websites. Worth another check. 

- I discovered Clairette - such a wearable piece for Spring, it went straight to my Raverly favourite (yep another knitting project). 

- I really want to get sewing again, and it is not happening. I just stumble across Tilly's 5 steps to kick-start your sewing mojo - it might be just the post to help!

- I love reading about vintage designers that I have not heard of, but really like the style of - thanks to Kate, I discovered Alberto Fabiani - and I am already a fan.

It is full on birthday preparations at ours, a little someone is going to be 3, and he will have a party. I made the same cake I made for his first birthday. I just need to be reminded of the good times, and his first birthday was definitely a very happy memory. Anyway, I did add some icing this time, because that's the only thing he actually likes in cakes.

I love this beanie hat - free pattern on De Rerum Natura blog - it resembles my own free pattern, but I like the way Beloved decreases better. Could it be a quick knit for Christmas (and he would get that red hat he has been asking for?)? 

I am juicing a lot - like everyday to make sure I get my intake of nutrients - but I have been wondering whether I have the right juicer (and may have been requested a new juicer from Santa). This discussion of centrifugal against masticating juicer is really useful! I am going for a masticating one, after months of using my centrifugal one - because I love green juices. 

I need a housecoat - just because Michelle sewed one and it is amazing!!

I love mugs, I love craft, I love quick projects - I could certainly make a message mug for someone right now thanks to this tutorial (and get those sharpie pens out of the box in the garage)

I love this version of the Turia Dungarees - totally not the season for them in the UK, but will bear it in mind for this summer!

Do I have time to knit le Pull Claude from La Poule a petits pas - as seen on Maeva? Love the details on the sleeves, so feminine.

- More and more projects are being finished, and thanks to the lovely weather here in Britain (couldn't it get more grey, seriously?) no pictures have been taken. All I am left with is starting a new project. I will test knit Pokiha for Libby - and at the same time test knit Blacker Yarns (from the pictures) so expect reviews soon. 

- I am sure a lot of you have, like me, either favourited or knitted color affection by Veera Valimaki. I have not knitted it yet, and I am glad, because there is a cool modification that is going round - the color-block-affection. I really like it knitted in this colour palette. I may have a new yarn crash - Madeline Tosh Merino in Moden Fair Isle.

- Apple Cider Sangria, anyone? I reckon it is the perfect transition to mulled wine - and it is vegan, so all fine right!?  

- I have not subscribed yet but I love the look and feel of 6 bits storybooks. I have a few magazines (and back issues) waiting to be read, but a girl cannot have too much reading outstanding. Anyone has subscribed yet?  

- It is always interesting to read sewing tips - some tool basics that are worth keeping in mind. 

- The new Pompom Magazine is out. Julie's review is here. 

- I love the idea of these Bento project bags. I may be looking at making one for myself - who's up for a DIY? 

- I just came across Nomads Clothing - an ethical clothing brand. It is not necessarily my style, but there are a couple of plain tunics that I quite like, and this blouse may have my name on it!

- I have been looking for a tank top pattern for my naturally dyed fabric. I was seriously considering the Wiksten pattern, but now we have a new contender - the Kate Top pattern by Tessuti Fabrics. It comes in two versions, I am tempted...

- Oh I am swooning all right - this knittng pattern will be in pre-order next week. How much knitting can I get done per day?  

- Women empowerment is something I am passionate about. So pleased to have in my feed an article about feminists to be inspired by. Aung San Suu Kyi is definitely one of my favourite feminist. Who inspires you?

- I have finally managed to naturally dye some organic cotton I had in my stash - I used Rebecca's dyeing with avocado skins tutorial. It takes a while, but totally worth the effort. I am not sure what I will make out of my new fabric, but whatever it will be I cannot wait to wear it with my new hand-knitted cardigan. 

- Pauline released her new pattern - the Rosari skirt - I love how she is always bang on trend. I want a jeans version of this skirt - and in fact I already have the fabric in my stash for it. Maybe I will even wear a skirt, and not just make one for my wardrobe. That would be quite something. 

- I discovered Clemence - or Huguette Paillettes on instagram - she posts free tutorials/patterns. It seems that the Germaine Cardigan will become a French blogger must have. It is a free pattern, so I may have a go. 

- I may just have to read this book about courage and the next steps. I may not be ready for any of this yet, but hopefully in time I will. 

- Liesl is going to do a shop update on  October 30, and the natural colour she produced out of walnuts is unbelievable.

- The versions of the Mesa quilt makes me want Quilting from every angle even more. I love Nancy's style. It may get me back into quilting as well. Has anyone got the book? 

- Grainline Studio and the Tamarack jacket - I have wanted to make a jeans quilted jacket for a while. It might be it (with a few modifications here and there). Love that it is collarless!

- Erin sewed a top called Natalie- well I just had to check it out - how fun would it be to sew a top with my name on it. It is a bit too similar to the  Weekend Gateaway blouse - that I should have finished by now but is not. Still a nice top with a great name!

- I love the Aoraki hat - I have not bought the pattern yet, but for sure I will knit myself one this year - probably in that colour with that pompom - OMG, have you seen the pompom?

Happy Friday everyone! Welcome to FRS where I share what has caught my eye recently - but where you could also share what has interested you - so please make full use of the comment box!

- Have you heard of the Fold Line? Finally there is a platform to share notes and pictures of patterns we use! Think Ravelry for sewist - at least that is what I understood. If you are a knitter, I am sure  you wondered like me why such a platform never existed for sewists (the Burdastyle community is really not that great - or at least I never used it as a resource). I have now registered  you can see my profile here. Please bear in mind that this is really new - I think it was launched yesterday - and therefore it will only work if we all post our makes. It will take time, but it is going to be worth the effort for this to become as good as Ravelry. 

- More baking over at MiH. The Green Kitchen stories posted a new gluten free wholesome muffin recipe, I just had to try it. I made some changes so that I did not have to do more shopping: I changed roll oats for quinoa flakes, the potato starch for tapioca flour, cardamom for nutmeg; and I just made sweetened apple sauce (with coconut sugar) so I used it. It was delicious and wholesome none the less. Also I made the switch from eggs to chia seeds, and it is wonderful, who knew! I did not make a vegan version - but you easily can by replacing the dairy yoghurt by a vegan version. 

- I just pinned this lovely crochet hat - the ribbing part sounds really interesting, so one of the boys is sorted. The other one will get a knitted hat - this one specifically... At what age will they tell to go away and wear my own knits? 

- The crossroads of should and must - so inspiring. I saw the video, but this is the written script (search for Elle Luna)

- The new pattern from Aime comme Marie is called Aime comme Majestic. I think I like it -  in fact it would  be perfect for my work wardrobe - this version made me like and dislike this pattern at the same time (note she is pregnant...).

- Free acorn crochet pattern - I am in! Autumn I am coming to capture you! You could also go for a walk and get some conkers for this DIY. 

- Love this story about running a second-hand shop. 

- I love the idea of styling nature in the home - I am not sure I will send a picture to enter (I have no space for that prize), but my house could really do with a jar full of feathers. 

- I loved reading Felicia's commitment to Slow Fashion October. It totally made sense to me and my own path to sustainability. 

- I keep hearing about Periscope - here is a guide on how to use it, maybe I will try it.

Happy Friday everyone! Welcome to FRS where I share what has caught my eye recently - but where you could also share what was interest to you - so please make full use of the comment box!

- Let's start by some baking - a nutella cake, sounds good, right?! I saw this post from earlier this month (I caught up a bit with posts this week), and I just knew I had to try it just because it looked beautiful (and yes, it got me started thinking about Xmas, and we know how much I love Xmas!). It looks ok for a first attempt, but the dough is too bread like at the moment, and I think I need a brioche type of dough. I have not found a recipe I like yet, so still on the look out if anyone has any to share? 

- This week, Brooklyn Tweed published it Fall 2015 pattern collection. As always it is worth checking it out just for the photography - how beautiful! I am head over heels about this collection but I do have a favourite, the Bannock cardigan. It is also featured in a beautiful plum colourway, absolutely gorgeous. This collection also features the new BT yarn - quarry - very exciting stuff!

- Talking about new yarn, de Rerum Natura, the ethical yarn from France I talked about here, has also launched new yarns - Albertine (a fingering weight yarn) and Penelope (DK weight). I will have to plan a new project - as if I did not have enough WIPs already. 

- And maybe this new project could be the Farmhouse shawl (by Cabinfour). I have seen many versions of this shawl, and Liesl version is beautiful (and her pictures), and reminded me how much I loved this simple pattern. 

- Fringe Association is organising a tag along in October called Slow fashion October, I will try to join in, will you? 

- An epic knitting project by Kessa in stitches - a knitted lace wedding dress. I won't say more, you have to see it for yourself, it is truly unbelievable. 

- Blanket capes are in (again) this season, check out this DIY to make your own! 

 

- New on my playlist is I can't Feel my Face by The Weeknd - makes me so happy. 

- And well, as I am in the England, I have to remind you (or do I have to?) that today is the start of the Rugby World Cup! Check out Matt Dawson's hakarena video. It is quite funny, but then again I don't support the All Blacks. Allez les Bleus!
