So it is the day to reveal my entry for le challenge! The theme this month was 'wings'... And a little someone thought it was a great theme because he got himself a fancy new jumper - in fact this my first ever hand-knitted cardigan. Hence starting by a baby size.
**For those coming from Ginny and Tamis' blogs, welcome! It is not a WIP as it is Le Challenge deadline, but we would love to have more people to participate, so I hope this post will encourage you to participate. The next theme has now been revealed and is MARITIME - deadline June 15!**
After having a serious blocking session, it fits him (but probably only for this week). I knitted 3-6 months size (he is 5 months today), added 2 cm to the length of the body (because I have a super tall baby), but I should have knitted the 6-12 months size (although I am not sure how a jumper is supposed to fit him a whole 6 months).
Pattern: Oscar by Lili Comme Tout (Ravelry)
Yarn: Rowan Baby Merino Silk DK in Zinc - it is a great yarn for baby garment (I used two and a bit balls in the end).
Needle size: 3.5 mm and 4mm (as indicated on pattern)
Size: 3-6 months, but lengthen the body
Result: It is a great pattern that does not look too baby-ish, in fact it is quite interesting to look at. I will definitely knit another one maybe for next winter. It is quite quick - and the sand stitch makes it interesting (although I was confused for a while to what was the right side and the wrong side). It fits him - just.

Oh my, he is just adorable and what do you mean he looks better in his cardie when standing? I think that applies to most of us lol. It's a gorgeous make and I love the buttons but Baby MIH is still stealing the show!
ReplyDeleteYour baby is so cute that I completely forget to look at your knitting work :)
ReplyDeleteBut now I've looked better, I think it has become a beautiful cardigan, I love the stitch pattern, the collar and those red accents.
he is so adorable! That last photo in particular is making my ovaries hurt ;-)
ReplyDeleteIt is gorgeous! The stitches look beautiful and those buttons are too cute! The little man gets cuter with every picture, so adorable!
ReplyDeleteSuperb Nat!
ReplyDeleteHe looks very happy with his new cardigan, as well he should! It's gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteI love it Nat and you are making me broody with the gorgeous Baby MiH!
ReplyDeleteThis is a lovely jumper and great buttons :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a little cutie! He looks very happy to have such a nice cardigan:)
ReplyDeleteLovely! Knitting baby clothes is sooo much fun! Shame my baby is now 13!!!!
ReplyDeleteOh! He is so adorable! A sweet knit - don't put yourself down - I think it is really good.
ReplyDeleteOh my, your little man looks absolutely charming in this! An impressive first garment! About the garter stitch edging, I usually tighten (pull a little) after knitting the first st of the row. Slipping the first st works too.
ReplyDeleteOMG! Little MiH is just about the most gorgeous thing ever. I am having problems focusing in the cardigan because of that fact. But it does look sweet. The buttons are inspired for Le Challenge.
ReplyDeleteAwww! So adorable! I love knitting for babies. Babies are the reason I picked up knitting again - my own :-) Now they are getting older, and I am having to spend more time knitting things for them in larger sizes. I find that I try and make things bigger so they will get a couple seasons out of them now...it is big the first time, and then it fits well the second time. Works well for our cold Maine winters, and all the layering we seem to do.
ReplyDeleteOh I wish I could knit, this is just adorable, both the baby and the jumper :)
ReplyDeleteSo cute ... and the sweater too :) Baby sweaters are fun to knit because they're so quick and little but if babies grow at the rate I think they do, I think the handknitted things only really fit for a couple of weeks. I guess that's why everyone makes them bigger and lets baby grow into them!
ReplyDeleteTHAT FACE! How do you resist smothering him with kisses and nuzzling up next to him constantly. Baby MIH looks especially handsome and snugly in his newest sweater!
ReplyDeleteThe cardigan is wonderful! I love the buttons:) Your baby is so cute:)
ReplyDeleteThis lil' one has grown so fast! He is so handsome. That gorgeous smile and those brillant blue eyes! His new jumper is perfect. The airplane buttons are so awesome.
ReplyDeletei must admit it is very difficult to concentrate on the knitting when there is this most delicious baby (with blue eyes! and precious smile) in the post. ;)
ReplyDeleteHe looks so cute! But, I know what you mean about making another when he's walking. Plus, it is pretty cool to watch your knitwear walk into the room :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a handsome sweater! Looks wonderful with his darling blue eyes. :)
ReplyDeleteYes, this does look like the stitch I'm using. I like the texture using this as the right side. I'm toying with the idea of making my daughter's cardigan reversible but I'll probably just get her to choose which way out she prefers. It's nice to see baby MIH so small again :)
