Highbury + Islington Baby Quilt | WIP {Quilting}

Wednesday, 19 February 2014

Is it bad to hope that my friend's baby will be late? I can remember that being overdue was awful... and I would not wish it on anyone, but I do not think that this is going to be ready for when the baby arrives. I am making progress but not quickly enough - and yes it is the simplest quilt of all (5 big strips of fabric). But it is going to be so cute!

Here are my fabric choices..

1. (backing) Koi - Smile and Wave in Reed; 2. Happy Drawing Elephants;
3. Free as  bird | Pollen, Up, Up & Away; 4. Botanics: Graph Paper Garden in blue

The quilting is very simple, as I really wanted to focus on the fabrics. I did consider FMQ .. for 5 minutes ... and thought better of it. It is not for me, so I am going for safer grounds here.

I am totally getting ahead of myself here - because I have a long quilting way to go, but I need to think about the binding - what do you think guys?I cannot get gold out of my head for some reason...

In case you wonder she is expecting a boy... I know there is blue fabric in it but I do not think it is really gender specific.

As it is Wednesday, and this is actually a quilt, I am linking up to Freshly Pieced today.

  2. Those little elephants are so sweet! I think a gold binding will frame the quilt beautifully and not to worry boys are late for everything ;)

  3. I think straight stitching is far more suitable than FMQ would have been. Gold binding sounds lovely, or you could pick up on the red in the elephant print fabric?

  6. Those fabrics and the straight quilting look fantastic. My second son was 10 days late . . . after the first week of being overdue I just gave up and went with it. :)

  7. I love your fabric choices! I tend to stick with the safety of straight line quilting over the uneasiness of free motion quilting. I think straight lines are perfect for this quilt!

  10. That elephant print fabric is just about the sweetest thing I have ever seen! And as for the binding, I say go for gold - there are so few occasions in life when gold is the wrong choice :)

  12. I love the Highbury & Islington quilt - the colours and fabrics are so beautiful. My dad lived in Islington and it's still one of my very favourite parts of London.

  15. Gold will fit in very very well indeed! And yes, I do not think this is overly boyish, which is nice. I do not sew but I really love the fabric you've chosen!
