Head or Tails Baby Blanket {Le Challenge #1 Geometrics}

Sunday, 14 April 2013

Le Challenge first theme was GEOMETRICS. Easy peasy, right?! Not surprisingly my inspiration came from  pinterest and specifically this pin. I made a smaller version of it for Baby MiH to chew and dribble on - his favourite activities of the moment.

It is crochet - inspired by quilting of course (I have always had a soft spot for plus quilts). The colour scheme is sort of the Totally Groovy QAL one.

Les souris grises cushion can be found here
For the main colours I used some Sirdar Country Style yarn in different shades (on offer at HobbyCraft in the UK)- which is quite good value and can be washed whenever needed. The 'quilting' and border yarn is Patons Valiani in navy.

It is made out of granny squares - probably quite obvious from the pictures, and arranged as for a plus quilt. I tied the plus together with the same yarn (using single crochet stitches) and 'quilted' with the Patons yarn.

The good thing about the blanket being made out of granny squares is that I can make adjust the size of it as Baby MiH is growing (if the blanket can make it that far).

Definitely liking it - nothing like chewing acrylic

The only question now is which side I like best... Head or Tails.

The 'back'... maybe my preferred side, not sure..
All le Challenge #1 projects can be found here. The next theme will be announced on 15th April at 3pm.

  12. Magnifique! JJ

  16. The idea to make a blanket that can grow with the baby is so clever! I´ve always loved the cross quilt pattern, too but never thought about using it for a crochet blanket. Oh the picture with baby MiH is precious!
